Who is Kit the Writer
Whilst my first love and career were solely centred around the kitchen, after my first major health issue I began exploring my childhood love of storytelling. Like many children, I was fascinated by myths and legends, and would often make up my own literary tales of wonder. However, it was only in my late 20s that I began pursuing writing professionally.
My Background:
My writing education began in 1999 with a Diploma of Travel Writing and Photography under the tutelage of renowned TV presenter and journalist, Simon Townsend. Determined to incorporate my love of food and culinary training into something more, I began writing ad hoc for whomever would publish my articles. In 2010 I began a combined degree that included a Diploma of Arts in Professional Writing & Editing, and would eventually go on to complete a Master of Arts in Creative Writing in 2018, and presenting at the Ilkley Literary Festival in 2019.
Since then I’ve written many different stories and articles, published under my name and ghost-written for many others, completed and published my first major novel which focuses on non-binary adolescence and self-discovery, and been included in several compilations. I’ve covered topics such as ancient and classical history, mythology, travel around Europe, scuba diving around the world, and so on, and teaching in-person classes. In 2019 I began teaching online, and spent much of the recent pandemic helping others creatively explore their lives through weekly writing exercises.
How I can help:
Every life contains a myriad of stories, some are complete, others are in-progress, but all are worth telling and sharing. Where Narrative Therapy becomes useful is in aiding the exploration of our actions and motivations in the third person – writing down and reading about our ‘main character’ energy as it were, and thinking about why this character is doing what they’re doing.
My aim, as a practising author, is to help you in narrating your story, helping you find the words to do justice to your tale, and bravely speak the truth of your experience. Through in-person and online workshops we’ll explore a range of prompts and projects, each designed to encourage and support you on your narrative journey.
These Narrative Therapy exercises are then something you can explore further with our in-house Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Alice, or any other mental health practitioner.
What I’ll be offering:
Through the Mind, Body and Spoons website I’ll be sharing live events and writing prompts, and on Instagram for an extra visual kick too! I’ll also be creating video tutorials which will be shared on YouTube, and in time, I’ll be offering regular online MBaS community writing workshops.
